Why Vegans are Flocking
to the "First U"

Have you been looking for a spiritual home, but none seem to meld with your core values?  Are you trying to eat a plant based diet and looking for like minded individuals to encourage you on your path?  Here’s the top reasons why we think the First Unitarian Church of Wilmington is the place for you.

1. Unitarian Universalists (UUs) are environmentally conscious.
One of our seven principles is “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part”.  As vegans, we know that eating an ethical diet involves avoiding animal products and the environmental toll they are paying on our planet.  At the First U, we are trying to teach our members more about how their food choices affect climate change and the steps we can make in the right direction

2. The First Unitarian Church of Wilmington has a vegan team
Our Environmental Task Force has a vegan subcommittee.  What do we do? Plan all the fun vegan events and educate our members about a plant based diet.  In the past few years we’ve hosted many vegan potlucks (the Vegan Thanksgiving Potluck is planned for Friday, November 15th, 2019), a vegan cookie exchange, and going vegan for Lent.  We are happy to have new members join our team!

3. Vegan food is available at many of our events
Wouldn’t it be great to attend your church event and not worry about whether there will be vegan food for you to eat?  At First U, this is our reality! This past year there was a Vegan Spaghetti dinner hosted by the Youth Group, not to mention the Youth pancake breakfast which always has multiple vegan offerings.  At coffee hour after our 10:30am service, you may find a variety of vegan options (including usually an awesome vegan baked good). We also often serve vegan snacks to all our children and youth during their church classes.

4. We are a community of folks with open minds and hearts.
The First U is a liberal religion that welcomes all.  We strive to be the leaders in change, especially when it affects the well being of our planet and the beings on this Earth.  All our members might not be vegan, but no one will challenge your diet or question your decisions. We welcome vegans to join us!

Interested in visiting?  Our Sunday services are at 10:30am with coffee hour afterwards at 11:30am.  Our next vegan event is Friday, November 15th, 2019 (Thanksgiving Vegan Potluck!). Or join our vegan subcommittee to help us plan future events!  Email Kate at katefranta@comcast.net to join our list. Hope to see you at the First U soon!

Stop In For A Visit!

Many people who come to First Unitarian are guests and visitors – our programs and worship are open to all.  If you are considering visiting, or have visited already and plan on attending again, please be sure to stop by our Welcome Table in the Parish Hall, directly behind the church sanctuary, after the service on Sunday.  Members of our congregation will be there to welcome you and answer any questions you may have.
