Are You Spiritual But Not Religious? Then We Are the Religion For You!
It has been said that religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who are already there. Well there’s a church called Unitarian Universalists (UU) and guess what? They’re not afraid afraid of going to hell. They don’t believe in hell. That’s why UU is the ideal religion for those who are spiritual but not religious.
Are you skeptical about hard and fast theological constructs and doctrines? Is that why you avoid religious institutions? UU's don’t have any hard and fast doctrines. They listen to all sides of a theological argument. They even have lots of agnostic and atheist members. That’s why Unitarian Universalists are the ideal religion if you are spiritual but not religious.
Are you looking to experience truth rather than be told the truth? That’s what UU's do week after week. Another reason Unitarian Universalist is the ideal religion for the spiritual but not religious.
Listen, to be spiritual, to want to grow your soul, is a fine goal. It is what all human beings should be about doing. But, to be spiritual over the course of a lifetime you need companions. You need to be part of a community that pushes you to broaden your vision, deepen your understanding, challenge your assumptions and dismantle your false idols. It is in the company of others that we find the means to grow our souls over the long haul. The company of others brings refreshment, new ideas, diverse sources, previously unconsidered possibilities.
Why not check out this group of people who are bold, skeptical, fun-loving, and people-loving? Maybe this place of spiritual growth could be your religious home! Services are 10:30am on Sunday mornings. Come be spiritual with us!
Many people who come to First Unitarian are guests and visitors – our programs and worship are open to all. If you are considering visiting, or have visited already and plan on attending again, please be sure to stop by our Welcome Table in the Parish Hall, directly behind the church sanctuary, after the service on Sunday. Members of our congregation will be there to welcome you and answer any questions you may have.
